- STRIPS, GOAP and FEAR
For my masters I'm working on an implementation of the Goal Oriented Action Planning (GOAP) system developed by Jeff Orkin of MIT, then also Monolith, for FEAR.

You can read more about his work here.

GOAP is based on the STRIPS automated planner which means that: There are goals and actions defined in a declarative way, so that actions can be matched to satisfy goals, and matched to each other to satisfy another action's prerequisites.

So far I have a version of the action planner implemented in about 400 lines of Python.
The next step is to implement this system into two toy game-environments.

The aim is to write my thesis by July 1st of this year and to keep this place updated with my progress.

Greets!

PS: I'm playing qutie a bit of Command & Conquerer: Red Alert 1 lately. Great recommended classic!

- Ubuntu, Vista, Quake
Dear friends,

I was running Ubuntu for a couple of months, now I switched to Kubuntu. Basically the same as Ubuntu, but with a gui which is more mature, and works better for me.

Plus Yakuake, a Quake-type console integrated into the Kubuntu gui, is native. This little program is one of the gems out there!

- Vista
I bought a computer for my parents a few weeks back. A shiny Core2 Duo w/ 2 gb of ram. And it comes with Vista. And, actually, I have very few bad things to say about it. It runs very smoothly, doesn't crash, has no irratic behavior. I'm kind of doing: *thumbs up*.

We will see how things pan out for it in the long run. Of course the fact that you can only install Vista on one hardware configuration could become a major pain. So far, so good.

- Quake Wars
So I played Quake Wars a bit a couple of months back. On Ubuntu even! It runs fine on there. I wasn't really thrilled by the fact that the gameplay breaks up like this: 25% parashuting, 25% running towards the enemy, 25% combat, 25% waiting for the next spawning or a medic. Wouldn't it be great if they had a deathmatch mode in there, just to cater to the hardcore fans?

- Quake Wars, awaiting arrival...
So I ordered QW the other day, can't wait for it to arrive! I've been steadily chipping away at the demo for the past week or so, after finally getting the right video drivers installed in Ubuntu.
At first the game was a bit irritating. me getting killed way too often, but it gets more and more fun the more time I put into it.
